Maurice Abranavel, now in his eleventh season as Musical Director and Conductor of the Utah Symphony, has established an international reputation before taking up this post in Salt Lake City. He has conducted at the Berlin State Opera, the Paris Opera, the Mexico City Opera, the Chicago Civic Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, and other major opera houses; and he had conducted a long series of Bradway successes, including Kurt Weill's Knickerbocker Holiday. In Sydney, he developed his own orchestra. During his years with the Utag Symphony, Maurice Abranavel has appeared as guest conductor in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburg, Montreal, Toronto, Houston, and many other American cities.
The Utah Symphony, under Mr. Abranavel's direction, has made amazing progress, climbing to its place of prominence with the leading symphony orchestras in America. In addition to the standard works of the symphonic repertoire, the Utah Symphony's concerts during the past few years have included many modern works and, in affiliation with the University of Utah, more than a dozen oratorios and operas.
